Prasannan Namboodiri is a practising lawyer in the matters of GST, Central Excise, Service Tax, Customs, NDPS, PMLA, Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code and Foreign Trade Policy. He is enriched with more than 23 years of working experience in the Departments of Central Excise, Customs and Service Tax. In his career with the Central Government he also worked as Intelligence Officer in the premier investigating agency in the field of NDPS i.e. Narcotics Control Bureau. He resigned from the department to serve the society and also to pursue his passion to practice in the field of NDPS & Indirect Taxation.
He graduated from a premier institution of law viz., K.C. Law College, Churchgate, Mumbai and is an alumnus of K.J. Somaiya College of Arts & Commerce, Vidyavihar, Mumbai.
He was instrumental in providing valuable contribution in drafting of the Narcotic Drugs & Psychotropic Substances (Regulation of Controlled Substances) Order, 2013, the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (Amendment) Act, 2014, the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (Third Amendment) Rules, 2015 and the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (Fourth Amendment) Rules, 2015 on behalf of Industry Associations and Palliative Care Associations.
He specializes in handling litigations and finds place on the Advisory Board of many Organizations including multinational Companies in the matters of Indirect Taxation and NDPS. He also specializes in providing advice in the matters of NDPS from the industry perspective. In his career as a lawyer he has diligently handled many complex cases ensuring success to his clients. His enthusiastic approach towards work, and untiring and continuous efforts provides value to his clients.
He has delivered a lecture on the topic ‘Overview of Global and Indian Regulatory Control on Pharmaceutical Drugs Containing NDPS’ in the National Sensitization Workshop for Indian Pharmaceutical Trade & Industry to Promote Self Regulation on Pharmaceuticals Containing NDPS organized by United Nations Office on Drugs & Crimes (UNODC), Regional Office for South Asia on 21.10.2016 at New Delhi.
He also participated as a representative of Indian Drug Manufacturers Association (IDMA) in the Regional High-level Conference on Precursor Control organized by UNODC and the Government of Myanmar in support of the ASEAN China Cooperative Operations in Response to Dangerous Drugs (ACCORD) framework, at Nay Pyi Taw, Myanmar on 7-9th November, 2018 and delivered a lecture on Precursor Control from the Industry perspective.
He is a regular faculty member in training programmes/workshops arranged by Narcotics Control Bureau, New Delhi (Ministry of Home Affairs) and National Academy of Customs, Indirect Taxes and Narcotics (Ministry of Finance, Department of Revenue).
He has conducted numerous workshops for trade and industry in the matters of Customs, Central Excise, Service Tax, GST, Foreign Trade Policy, NDPS etc.
He regularly appears before the Customs Excise & Service Tax Tribunal (CESTAT) Benches situated in various Cities in India, Hon’ble High Courts in different States in India and also before the Hon’ble Supreme Court of India in Indirect Taxation and NDPS matters and is also a member of Supreme Court Bar Association.
